Brian Schottenheimer Primed for Second Cowboys Interview
Brian Schottenheimer, the Dallas Cowboys' offensive coordinator since 2023, will have a second interview for the team's head coaching position on Wednesday, according to Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein. Schottenheimer's extended meeting with the Cowboys brass underscores his status as a frontrunner for the job.
Schottenheimer is a familiar face to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who has a history of appointing known coaches to key roles. Schottenheimer's current position as offensive coordinator likely gives him an edge over other candidates.
Currently, Schottenheimer stands as the betting favorite for the Cowboys' head coaching position at -250 odds on DraftKings. Kellen Moore, who was initially favored, has slipped to +250 odds.
A potential appointment as head coach, whether with the Cowboys or elsewhere, would mark Schottenheimer's first NFL head coaching role. The 51-year-old son of the late Marty Schottenheimer has held coaching positions with the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, New York Jets, St. Louis Rams, and Seattle Seahawks before joining the Cowboys in 2022.
Should Schottenheimer land the head coaching job, he is reportedly keen on assuming play-calling responsibilities, a task previously handled by McCarthy.
Schottenheimer is the first internal candidate to formally interview for the Cowboys' head coaching position. Team executives have previously engaged in discussions with Moore, Robert Saleh, and Leslie Frazier.
